JEE Examination Pattern: Key Eligibility and Admission Updates
The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), has established the following current eligibility and admission policies for JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).
1. Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and IITs:
To be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) based on JEE (Main) ranks, and to qualify for JEE (Advanced) for IIT admission, candidates must meet a minimum academic performance criterion in their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination.
Candidates must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in their Class 12 board examination or must be within the top 20 percentile in their respective board's Class 12 results.
For candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories, the minimum required aggregate marks are 65%.
Note: Class 12 marks do not contribute to the calculation of the JEE (Main) rank. The rank is based solely on the JEE (Main) performance. The above criteria are qualifying in nature and are verified during the centralized counselling process (JoSAA/CSAB).
2. State Admissions via JEE (Main):
Many states have adopted JEE (Main) scores for admission to their state engineering colleges. The specific weightage given to the JEE (Main) score, state board marks, and other criteria varies by state. Candidates must refer to the official notifications from their respective State Engineering Entrance Examination Authorities for precise admission rules.
3. General Process for Current Academic Session:
JEE (Main) is conducted in multiple sessions.
JEE (Advanced) is a single examination for which only the top-performing candidates from JEE (Main) are eligible.
The online application and correction windows are announced by the NTA on its official website: https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/. Candidates must carefully fill out the application within the stipulated deadlines, as correction periods are limited and offered as a one-time facility.
The Class 12 roll number and performance details are collected during the application process for later verification during counselling. Candidates must provide accurate information.
Important Advisory:
Candidates should always refer to the latest official information brochures released by the NTA for JEE (Main) and by the IITs (Joint Admission Board) for JEE (Advanced) for the current academic year. These documents contain the definitive and updated rules regarding eligibility, exam pattern, syllabus, reservation policies, and important dates. Information from previous years is subject to change.
